It has been our pleasure at Free i Entertainment to have brought you a party week this year since May 19th when we kicked off ‘Reggae on the Roof’ at Kress every Tuesday for the Summer months. Our goal this year was to bring the Jamaican vibe to the real Hollywood scene and we think that was accomplished. No other reggae party has ever merged the authentic uptown Kingston scene into Hollywood’s ‘A’ list night life as was done with ‘Rock Jamaica’ this year. This Tuesday @ Kress LA’s Premier Reggae party, Rock Jamaica, will be celebrating with Director David F. Mewa. David accepted the nomination for his first Much Music Video Award (MMVA) for the breakout music video FAMOUS – AIN’T NO USE. Join us to meet & learn about Davids upcoming film projects.
David is currently based in Los Angeles, but he grew up in Toronto and has is roots in Jamaica. Rock Jamaica is all about promoting upcoming artists especially when they have Caribbean ties like we do. This industry is filled with very talented artists from all over the Caribbean and we look forward to putting them in front of our fan base on a consistent basis. Canada’s television and music industry recognizes this burgeoning director in it’s BEST HIP-HOP VIDEO category. “It is an honor to recieve my first ever nod in this category, Hip-Hop is an important part of my life.” says Mewa. MUCH MUSIC honors the best in Canadian and international music videos annually in a nationally televised award show that draws thousands to its outdoor celebration. The 2009 MMVA’s will be televised on Sun June 21/2009 at 9pm EST. Mewa will travel to his hometown Toronto to be in attendance.

Rock Jamaica’s ‘Reggae on the Roof’ has begun with an amazing launch last Tuesday night overlooking Hollywood from the roof top of Kress. The trailer above captures the intensity of the anticipation you feel as you ride the elevator up towards ‘Reggae on the Roof’. Then the doors open and the bass from the current reggae song bursts into the carriage as you get your first view of the crowd moving in harmony.
The Rock Jamaica family would like to thank everyone again who filled the Kress roof top to capacity with positive vibes. Thanks to Toshi and crew who provided a great mix of reggae, dancehall and hip hop music which kept the people dancing all night long. A big shout out to Rohan Marley who celebrated his Earth Strong on the roof top of Kress that night. He had a great time as you can see from the picture below.
