Ky-Mani Marley Gets Personal In Autobiography

Although he is the son of music royalty, Ky-Mani Marley says life has not always been a bed of roses. The 33-year-old singer/actor tells his story in Dear Dad, his autobiography to be released February 6.

Marley is best known for minor hit songs like Dear Dad and Warriors and roles in movies such as One Love, as well as starring in a hit reality show on Black Entertainment Television (BET). But he says his childhood was difficult, even though his father was reggae superstar Bob Marley.

A deal with the music superstar’s estate is set to generate more than $1 billion in worldwide annual sales by 2012.

TORONTO (Fortune) — Is reggae superstar Bob Marley bigger than Jesus? That’s debatable, but the music legend who died 28 years ago is about to challenge Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson for the title of richest dead celebrity.

Toronto-based private-equity firm Hilco Consumer Capital has struck a management deal with the Marley estate, which is expected to generate worldwide annual sales in excess of $1 billion by 2012. That seems like a huge number, but by some estimates the Marley name, sound, and image already generate as much as $600 million in pirated merchandise. Continue reading

Jr Gong, Nas for National Geographic Event

American rapper Nas and Reggae’s Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley thrilled audiences in Montego Bay this past summer as their performed together giving a snippet of what is to come on their upcoming project, Distant Relatives.

Now, internet reports are indicating that in keeping with the album’s union of Hip Hop and Reggae music and culture, the duo has joined National Geographic for a Distant Relatives event.

Usain Bolt – Man of the Year – Lightning Strikes Twice

Lightning seems to strike twice in many ways for Usain Bolt. Breaking the 100m world record at a major championship, the Olympics in Beijing, China, in 2008, and doing the same a year later in 2009 at the World Championships in Berlin, Germany. Check.

Decimating the 200m world record in Beijing in 2008 and repeating the feat in 2009 in Berlin. Check again.
